How Elon Musk Enjoys Summer? Walking On A Flying Plane, Of Course

When you are Elon Musk, you aren’t exactly constrained by regular rules. Like, for example, gravity.

Just for the heck of it, Tesla Motors and SpaceX founder Elon Musk decided to take a walk on a flying plane with his wife Talulah Riley this weekend. His ridiculously cool adventure was captured on Riley’s instagram feed.

If you are like me and wondering what the heck “wing walking” is (most of us aren’t familiar with walking on moving planes, Tom Cruise excepted), read this excerpt from Mashable below. It clarified a lot for me:

Wing walking has its roots in the air shows of the 1920s, a time when aviation was still young and the sight of a vehicle soaring through the air was an unusual novelty. While it was initially born as a death-defying stunt to wow crowds, the U.S. military’s then-young flight program — this was before the U.S. Air Force even existed — adopted the practice for in-air refueling.

Much like skydiving, wing walking is a thrillseeker activity that anyone with some cojones can participate in. The family-owned West Coast Spin Doctors, based in Sequim, Wash., specializes in training would-be daredevils in the graceful art of not shitting your pants while walking on the outside of a flying plane.

As far as daring CEOs are concerned, it looks like Elon Musk is giving Richard Branson a run for his money. You’re a brave man, Mr. Musk.
